چکیده

We report progress towards developing methods to forecast solar-power intermittency due to clouds using analysis of digital images taken with a ground-based, suntracking camera. We show preliminary results of blockmotion estimation analysis applied to a sequence of sky images recorded in Tucson, Arizona. In addition, we discuss statistics of ramp rates and duration of cloudinduced intermittency based on the analysis of one year of photovoltaic power output data measured at one second intervals for a 2kW system.

Intra-hour DNI forecasting based on cloud tracking image analysis

We describe an image processing methodology using Total Sky Imagers (TSIs) to generate short-term forecasts of Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) at the ground level. Specifically, we are interested in forecasting 1-min averaged DNI values for time horizons varying from 3 to 15 min. This work describes several sky image processing techniques relevant to solar forecasting, including velocity field c...

Interval-based Solar PV Power Forecasting Using MLP-NSGAII in Niroo Research Institute of Iran

This research aims to predict PV output power by using different neuro-evolutionary methods. The proposed approach was evaluated by a data set, which was collected at 5-minute intervals in the photovoltaic laboratory of Niroo Research Institute of Iran (Tehran). The data has been divided into three intervals based on the amount of solar irradiation, and different neural networks were used for p...

Due to the rapid increase in deployment and high penetration of solar power generation worldwide, solar power generation forecasting has become critical to variable generation integration planning, and within utility and independent system operator (ISO) operations. Utilities and ISOs require day ahead and hour ahead as well as intra-hour solar power forecasts for core operations solar power pr...

Development of a sky imaging system for short-term solar power forecasting

To facilitate the development of solar power forecasting algorithms based on ground-based visible wavelength remote sensing, we have developed a high dynamic range (HDR) camera system capable of providing hemispherical sky imagery from the circumsolar region to the horizon at a high spatial, temporal, and radiometric resolution. The University of California, San Diego Sky Imager (USI) captures ...

A Low Cost, Edge Computing, All-Sky Imager for Cloud Tracking and Intra-Hour Irradiance Forecasting

With increasing use of photovoltaic (PV) power generation by utilities and their residential customers, the need for accurate intra-hour and day-ahead solar irradiance forecasting has become critical. This paper details the development of a low cost all-sky imaging system and an intra-hour cloud motion prediction methodology that produces minutes-ahead irradiance forecasts. The SkyImager is des...
